The SBSTA made some progress in its considerations of definitions and modalities for including afforestation and reforestation project activities under the CDM in the first commitment period (This is discussed further in the section on the Clean Development Mechanism.)

The SBI formed a small informal group (under the auspices of SBSTA) to discuss a proposal by Croatia to establish a figure for determining the cap on forest management activities for which it it can claim credit under the COP-7 decision relating to land use, land use change and forestry. At the time of the decision at COP-7, no figure had been determined for Croatia. SBI invited Croatia to provide country-specific data and other information to justify its proposal. This will be considered further at SB 18.
